The Healthcare Design Expo & Conference 2021 opened with success for Carolina with Knack winning the Gold Nightingale Award in patient seating.

Presented by Healthcare Design Magazine in partnership with The Center for Health Design, the Nightingale Awards honor new products exhibited at the conference for their contribution to the healthcare built environment. The awards, named after Florence Nightingale, recognize products across 16 categories that employ product design and innovation that contribute to healing.

The first recliner of its kind, Knack allows facilities and designers to specify for a range of applications including home health, telehealth, staff restorative spaces, waiting areas, clinical spaces, and senior living. Knack’s comfortable, ergonomic design couples with three base options and multiple arm cap choices to provide design credibility and purpose.

“The main theme behind Knack was that every detail supported a soft, approachable scale with unconditional comfort for the user. We wanted the design touches to translate easily from the waiting room and patient room and all the way into the living room without any changes besides surface materials,” added John Phillips, Vice President of Design at Carolina and OFS. “Our goal was to keep it simple and stunning, and this award win is a testament to the entire design team’s commitment to provide adaptable solutions for a variety of applications.”

It’s always great to see our design team rewarded by colleagues in the healthcare community for our passion to create meaningful products that support patients during their time of need.
- Lauren Morgan, Brand Manager at Carolina

Knack was designed by the OFS in-house product design team. Anton Ivanov was the lead designer with strong collaboration from John Phillips and Juhee Park. Ivanov started his own design studio in March 2021 AVI Design.
